Fly Away

The House Finches are about to fly away... this one is pretty brave, he hops up where he can see me when I come into the front hallway.

Trying to Find the Man in the Moon

 This is actually a series of photos. I couldn't help myself, the moon looked really nice tonight... also... I thought it was later than what it was... so I am tagging these for the 24th..

Lovely Flowers

I'm enjoying the flowers in the yard, very difficult to resist picking!  This is a rose that I purchased just after my son was born. It bloomed the first year with a dinner-plate sized bloom. It is velvety and beautiful, but has never had a huge bloom again. They are all normal, around the size of my hand when open... still velvety and gorgeous! It's been nipped back by th e frost last night, but still pretty against the blue sky.

Spring Day Three

Another day of Spring! I am going to try capturing the beautiful flowers that are blooming in my garden.

Spring!

One of the types of daffodils in my front yard. It is some type of double... don't know the name. I think the yellow is spectacular and want to bring every flower into the house! It hasn't been a bad Winter, but it seems a very long time since we had beautiful flowers!

First Day of Spring, 2016

It is finally Spring!  Seems we have been waiting a long time, but we really haven't. This Winter was not bad, we had snow, but it didn't last long. We had ice, but didn't lose any trees. So we are good! But Spring makes everything better!
I am going to try to capture a picture a day of the front and back garden and the lovelies that are blooming.  If you look closely, you'll see a ladybug hiding between the petals of a just opening daffodil!

This is one of the Roses in the back Garden, climbs up the fence and cascades over in a beautiful shower of tiny roses!

Grandfather's Books

This is an odd thing, I was trying to tell someone about my grandfather's books... I didn't get many of them, My oldest brother got his law books, I got novels, a set of encyclopedias, a literature series and this old dictionary. I love it... 

It's in sad shape now... my sister's kids used it for a booster seat when they were little... much to my sadness... 

My grandfather had a lot of books, as you can imagine... being a lawyer, you do accumulate a lot of books, but he has more than the normal clutter... you see, he was pretty old (I'm the youngest of all the grandchildren and I'm pretty old). He practiced during the depression and the tough years that ensued. 

Many of his clients paid him with goods... like chickens, bushels of vegetables, books...

I've been hunting through some old boxes, came across my daughter's Homecoming mums from Jr Hi and High School...
If you don't know what a Homecoming Mum is... you probably don't live in Texas.

Family

Wow, this is a tough one, I am in a dwindling family now... my mom is about to turn 91, my dad has been gone since I was 14, all of my grandparents were gone, either before I was born or by the time I was 16. Siblings are either far away or passed on, or distant... and my daughter and her son are 6 hours away, so it's just my son and I, and brief visits to Mom... she's not doing well right now... and what we can keep up with on the internet...
This is my interpretation of family...
